The event marked a significant step in MedMA’s engagement in Cyprus, creating a space for dialogue on current challenges, policy gaps, and opportunities for collaboration at both national and EU levels.
Following an informal networking session, MedMA’s Director Markos Karavias presented MedMA’s mission and track record in EU migration and asylum governance. He highlighted the organisation’s policy-oriented research and stakeholder-driven approach. The discussion demonstrated Cyprus’s growing relevance for migration and asylum at this moment.
Eleni Takou, Senior Policy and Research Officer, introduced MedMA’s strategic objectives in Cyprus, outlining planned activities and how MedMA aims to complement and enrich ongoing policy discussions through evidence-based analysis and dialogue.
Kyriaki Chatzipanagiotou, Policy Officer based in Cyprus, presented the MedMA Migration & Asylum Digital Hub for Cyprus, introducing participants to the hub’s key outputs, data sources, and methodology. The presentation emphasized the platform’s useful applications, and demonstrated how a variety of actors, such as practitioners, journalists, policymakers, and the general public, can use it to support research, advocacy, and evidence-based policy design, and informed understanding of migration and asylum in Cyprus.
The event concluded with an open discussion on emerging policy developments, including the anticipated implementation of the National Migrants’ Integration Strategy 2025–2029 and the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. Participants expressed strong interest in sustained collaboration and set the foundation for future MedMA initiatives and engagement in Cyprus.
