Returns
This section provides statistics on deportation orders, total returns by category, age, country of origin and destination country. A return refers to the act of a person going back to their country of origin or to a third country after having moved to another country, either voluntarily or through organised programs.
Deportation Orders
Data pertains to the number of third country citizens who are subjected to an administrative or judicial determination declaring their stay unauthorised and mandating their departure from the Member State’s territory.
Orders & Returns Following Order to Leave
Note: The number of returns shown in each quarter reflects executions of orders to leave carried out during that period, regardless of when the orders were originally issued. Therefore, returns in a given quarter do not necessarily correspond to the orders issued in the same quarter.
Returns
Note: The graphs in this section present the number of returns of third-country nationals following an order to leave.
Returns by Category – Aggregated Data
Eurostat reports no available data (“:”) for non-assisted voluntary returns in Cyprus for the Q2 of 2025. This does not indicate zero returns.
Voluntary Return: When a third-country national willingly complies with the obligation to return, confirmed by border, consulate, or other authorities assisting in return programs. For more information on definitions, click here.
Enforced return: It refers to the situation in which a third-country national is subject to the enforcement of the obligation to return. For more information on definitions, click here.
Returns by Nationality – Aggregated Data
Returns by Destination Country – Aggregated Data
This dataset represents returns by nationality and destination, showing where third-country nationals were returned following return procedures. The data were originally collected on a quarterly basis and have been aggregated to annual totals.
Overall, the majority of returns involved Syrian nationals, and returns were overwhelmingly carried out to individuals’ countries of origin. In 2024, there were 8,910 returns to countries of origin and only five returns to a third country, all involving individuals from Cameroon who were reportedly not returned to Cameroon. In 2025, returns remained high with 10,630 returns to countries of origin and no third-country returns recorded, indicating that third-country returns were rare across both years.
